The York family is based off of my favorite American hero from World War I (the Great War), Alvin C. York who was from my home state, Tennessee, and his wife, Gracie. Alvin was a Christian man who stated that he didn't want to kill for his country (because in the Bible: "thou shall not kill"), but he would die for his country. He was a part of General Pershing's American Expeditionary Force, and he became most famous during the Battle at Argonne Forest in France. York and fellow troops were pinned down, but after seeing fellow comrades being killed/wounded, York became a one-man fighting maching, later stating that he killed the enemy to save American lives. He changed the tide of this battle, and not long after this, WWI ended. Even after the war, Alvin always remained a humble man who didn't forget where he came from, a farm in the mountains of Tennessee, and for that, he is a hero of mine.
